Resume

Catherine Stoker is the senior Trustee on West Chester’s Board of Trustees, having taken office in 1994; and in 2009 became the President of the Board.

After taking office, Mrs. Stoker quickly became known for her resistance to unnecessary and/or illegal taxes by effectively opposing an increase in sales tax in 2002 and stopping a $20 license plate tax in 1995 both with the help of fellow citizens and local attorneys. Her efforts have helped save West Chester and Butler County residents more than $100 million.

Mrs. Stoker has helped to encourage a multi-billion growth in new business development in West Chester. This vigorous commercial growth is helping to subsidize the cost of providing essential services like police, fire, emergency medical, roads, and schools which are so important to our vibrant community.

In addition to retail stores and office parks, West Chester has seen an increase in park acreage, entertainment venues, and health and educational services. During her sixteen years as a township trustee, West Chester’s park acreage has increased from about 170 acres to more than 800 acres.

This year, Miami University’s Voice of America Learning Center will be dedicated on Cox Road, and we will see the opening of the West Chester Medical Center, a 160-bed full-service hospital right across the street.

Late this year, or early in 2010, West Chester will see the opening of its new library, a branch of the Middletown Public Library , which should meet our community’s needs for generations to come.

When not attending to her duties as a trustee, Mrs. Stoker administers her computer services company, Brite Belt Technologies, and enjoys volunteering for a number of local charitable and not-for-profit organizations like Partners in Prime, the West Chester-Liberty Community Foundation, the VFW Auxiliary, the local Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star chapter; and for years she has been the Wednesday morning dispatcher for our free Senior Van service.

Mrs. Stoker and her husband Mike have been business owners in West Chester for more than twenty years. Their son, David, is a graduate of The Ohio State University in 2000 and achieved his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin. Currently, David Stoker and his bride Irina live in California where David works as a Physicist for Stanford Research Institute.

Mrs. Stoker welcomes comments and questions and may be reached at her home, (513) 777-0334, or through email.
